DIY-FRINGED TOP (INSPIRED BY COACHELLA)

Since the weather got warmer, it is time for a DIY. Inspired by the most important musical event, this fringed top will bring Coachella to you every day. The truth is, I saw a dress like that in a very famous brand’s site, but the price was way too expensive, so I DIYed it.

What you need:

• ·      A dress which length’s bellow the knee at least.

 TIP: Make sure the dress is 100% cotton. Only cotton clothes are appropriate for cut.

• ·      A pair of scissors

 TIP: Industrial scissors work better, but at this project where the fabric is not that thick, a regular pair of scissors will be fine.

• ·      A ruler

TIP: The ruler is optional here, but if you are a beginner or you don’t have a stable hand, it will help you with the guiding lines.

• ·      A piece of chalk

TIP: Use chalk instead of a pen or a pencil. Chalk is more soft and easy removable from any fabric.

Start by wearing the dress and mark to each of the sides with the chalk where you want your top to be cut. Mark a little lower in the beginning and then go higher. 

Lay the dress on a flat surface and with the ruler draw a straight line connecting the two sides you marked before.

First you want to cut the two sides of the dress.

After you are happy with the length go and cut in lines vertically. The size of each stripe should be approximately 1,5 cm. They don't have to be perfect, just cut them and you can correct them in the end.

Cut the bottom of the dress, stretch the fringes, and you are done!

Additional TIPS:

·      You should take you time while cutting the stripes

·      Don’t worry if the stripes are not even, after you stretch them the will all be the same.

·      Cut at the same time the back and the front of the dress. You will save time and the stripes will be more even.

·      As soon as you finish, throw the dress in the washing machine. This way the fringes will show much better.

Perfect for summer, this top will give you a grunge and unique style.
